OVERVIEW
A large oilfield in Southern California produced 80,000 barrels of oil and 700,000 barrels of water
per day. Produced water is cleansed using two separate sets of Wemco air flotation units before
filtration. Half the water goes to a canal for agricultural use; the other half is softened and used
to create steam for secondary oil recovery. Water quality is therefore critical to daily operations.
However, clarifying polymers used the Wemco units accounted for over one-third of the field’s total
chemical treatments costs.
CUSTOMER OBJECTIVES
The company wanted to find a polymer that
- Improved water quality
- Reduced chemical treatment cost.
KEM-TRON’S SOLUTION
The KEM-TRON polymer provided measurable improvements in water quality and reduced polymer
treatment costs by over 25% from the previous supplier. Also, by applying the KEM-TRON
polymer in a unique upstream application, the oil company could dramatically improve water quality
coming from the first set of Wemcos. As a result, the second set of Wemcos and the sand filters
could be eliminated., resulting in further savings to the customer in electrical, chemical, operational
and maintenance costs.
KEM-TRON has a complete line of polymers available to meet your water treatments. We can supply
samples for your evaluation or offer on site assistance to help you choose the best polymer for
your application.
