Vertical Cuttings Dryer

As our industry evolves, we are faced with increasing responsibility to protect the environment in which we operate. Concurrently, government agencies continue to increase pressure toward achieving these goals by placing stringent effluent limitations on the discharge of contaminated drill cuttings to the environment. To support the goals of both the industry and regulators, KEM-TRON has developed a cuttings treatment system capable of achieving a new level of compliance and fluid recovery.   

A New Standard in Performance

KEM-TRON’s Vertical Cuttings Dryer (“VCD”) sets a new standard in drilling fluid recovery by introducing the industry’s first chemically-enhanced cuttings dryer using KEM-TRON’s proprietary KT-BREAKER™. By using a very low volume of proprietary solvent, KEM-TRON's chemically-enhanced VCD will dramatically decrease the liquid content in drill solids waste discharge and increase the recovery of drilling fluids for reuse.

Achieving Results 

Conventional cuttings dryers are proven to reduce liquid content on average from 12% to 4% by weight, a 65% reduction in fluid discharge. KEM-TRON’s chemically enhanced VCD has been
designed to achieve an average liquid content 50% less than what is achieved by those conventional systems.   

Operation

KEM-TRON’s rugged chemically-enhanced, continuous VCD is fed via screw conveyor, vacuum system, or rotary-lobe solids pump from the flow-line shakers. During the transfer process, the drill cuttings are treated with KEM-TRON’s proprietary KT-BREAKER™. Upon application of the solvent, drill cuttings are fed into the hopper, and distributed along the inner wall of the screen with the aid of the rotor. The liquid phase, or “filtrate”, passes through the screen openings while the vertical scraper with sintered tungsten carbide tiles scrape the accumulating cake solids towards the bottom of the VCD for disposal. The filtrate gravity flows into a containment tank and pumped to a high speed decanter centrifuge.  Upon discharge, the dried cuttings are then safely discharged to the environment, are collected for further treatment or off-site disposal. KEM-TRON’s VCD significantly improves liquid phase recovery, thereby paying for itself.
